How To Measure - Kilt Package

How to measure for a kilt package

Before you start...

1. Always ask someone to measure you, never be tempted to measure yourself!
2. Please take all measurements in inches.
3. Please use a loose tailors tape measure, not a stiff DIY tape measure. These are cheap to buy either locally or online.
4. Stand relaxed (do not breathe in), with your feet together and look straight ahead at all times.
5. Ensure the tape measure is level all the way around for each measurement, it shouldn't be sloping or slanting.
6. If you need our assistance, please call +44 (0)1792 474685 or drop us an e-mail enquiries@welsh-tartan.com

COLLAR

  • Measure around your neck with one finger inside the tape for comfort.

CHEST

  • Measure high under the armpits, at the widest point around your upper body (relax your arms down to the side before recording the measurement)
  • The tape measure should include the shoulder blades.

SLEEVE LENGTH

  • Both arms must be relaxed down to the side.
  • Where possible, this is best measured with a formal jacket on.
  • Measure from the crown to cuff (where the sleeve meets the shoulder to the bottom of the cuff).
  • Ensure this is not too long as some shirt cuff should be exposed.
  • We can reasonably predict your sleeve length from your height and will call you to discuss if necessary.
  • If you don't have a jacket to measure, measure from the top of your shoulder down to 1/2 inch past the wrist bone.
  • Sleeve guide: 23.5" - Short Fitting, 24.75" - Regular Fitting, 26" - Long Fitting

KILT WAIST

  • Your kilt waist is a few inches higher than your normal trouser waist.
  • This should be a snug measurement at the widest point of the tummy, at navel height. The measuring tape should be as tight as you want your kilt to be.
  • Please do not give us your normal trouser or jeans waist, as these will actually measure 2-3 inches smaller than the label suggests.

HIPS/SEAT

  • Remove any items from your pockets and measure around the widest point of the seat/hips.
  • As illustrated, this is normally around the widest part of your buttocks.
  • Put three fingers inside the tape to allow room for comfortable movement.

KILT LENGTH

  • Please get someone else to take this measurement for you, this is very important.
  • This measurement is best taken whilst kneeling down on both knees with your body upright, back straight and looking ahead at all times.
  • Measure from the same position you recorded your kilt waist down to the floor and take off 1/2 inch. Please take this measurement down the side of your body, not the front.
  • Please ensure you provide an accurate height with your order. We can usually tell if your kilt length is too short or long based on your height.
